Comments, likes and tasks
Write comments beneath materials, reports, events, grants and projects; mention people with @username. Follow a comment or discussion for new-comment and edit notifications, and use the same control to unfollow. Settings → My discussions collects your comments, mentions and followed threads. Create a GitHub action item lets a manager choose a related board, review the text, assignees and status, then confirm the remote operation. Current source access and project management authority are required. Popular pages use likes, comments and bookmarks on currently accessible pages.
Profiles and follows
Enter affiliation and position in Edit profile. Researcher profiles provide follow, unfollow, block and unblock controls. Counts are shown; lists are private by default and visible only to the owner and platform administrators. Owners can make the lists visible to active registered users.
Digests and email
In Notification preferences choose a digest interval and categories to batch. Other categories stay immediate; leave chat categories unselected to retain instant chat notifications. Inbox details are collapsed and device banners omit body text. Email contains currently authorized details and source links, configured to open a new window; the mail client controls actual window behavior.
Automatic metadata and connections
Automatic classification associates source projects, grants and identified authors, assignees or connection managers. Calendar attendees match unique account emails within the same lab; association does not prove attendance. Manual changes are preserved. Generate tags extracts keywords locally without sending documents to external AI. Reader changes use the existing proposal and approval process. GitHub repositories and Projects boards are separate connections; organization administrators still need appropriate credentials. Overleaf and OneDrive connections register source links only. An Overleaf GitHub mirror can be imported through a repository connection.
Publications and AI magazine
Use the connection button in Publications on your own profile to select a collection containing only publications you authored. Provide its library type, numeric ID and collection key; private libraries require a read API key. Daily refreshes are merged by DOI or matching title, authors and year. Lab management → AI research activity magazine enables daily, weekly or monthly features. AI compares source-attributed activity, selects a researcher and writes the article. The selected identity and its evidence IDs are validated; insufficient evidence permits deferring the selection. This is not an objective ranking of effort or research quality. AI permissions, quotas and current source access still apply.
Read and follow discussions; check GitHub registration
- Use the discussion composer below materials, reports, events, grants and projects. Existing comments are collapsed and loaded when you open the discussion.
- Reply, like or follow a comment/thread. Follows can notify you of changes and new replies; unfollow in the same place.
- Settings → My discussions collects your comments, mentions and followed threads. Check notification preferences for likes and follows too.
- To turn an instruction into work, a manager chooses Create GitHub work on the comment, reviews the board, assignees, fields and text, then confirms.
- Check the existing registration status and linked issue first. Additional registration is possible, so verify that another issue is intended.
Follow researchers, control lists and start a conversation
- Use follower/following counts and Follow/Unfollow at the top of a researcher profile. Open the adjacent follower/following list control for names.
- Set list visibility on your own profile. Private lists are visible to you and platform administrators; public lists are visible to active registered users. Following grants no source access.
- Use block/unblock for someone following you when needed. This is separate from ordinary conversation and source membership permissions.
- Choose Message on a profile to open a direct conversation. Check the other participant before sending.
- Overview → Network news → Following shows readable updates with related researcher names. Absence from this feed is not evidence of inactivity.
GitHub issue comment alerts
- Link your exact GitHub ID in Profile settings; names and emails are not used to guess accounts.
- Platform replies notify authorized thread participants/followers, linked issue authors/assignees/participants and users mentioned by platform or GitHub ID. Current read permissions and notification preferences apply; your own reply does not notify you. Follow a discussion to receive replies across collected versions of the same issue.
- Remote comments notify after the next successful collection. Enable automatic collection or collect now. Signed GitHub webhooks can use issue_comment as a collection signal; this is not guaranteed instant messaging.
- Initial baselines do not flood you with historical comments. Collection uses the latest 50 observed comments and may be limited by remote permissions or collection bounds. Read the original issue for the complete thread.
- Platform and GitHub comments stay in their original locations.
Mentions and citations in editors
- Type @ in a note, body, comment, review or AI instruction field. Search by part of a username or researcher name, then select a result to insert the exact @username.
- Type [[ and part of a document title. Typing [[ alone also lists candidates. Selection inserts a title with its platform link, even if you already typed closing brackets.
- Use arrow keys to select and Enter or Tab to insert. Enter does not submit while suggestions are open. Escape closes suggestions. During Korean composition, Enter remains an IME action.
- This covers material/report notes, calendars, discussion edits, chat/sharing, announcements, wikis, magazines, support, Timebank, grant introductions, research questions, biographies and generation instructions. Newly expanded discussions work too.
- Select a channel before sharing. Only its readers and documents accessible to every reader are suggested. Other editors follow your current access. Inserting a mention does not create notifications in every feature; existing notification rules still apply.
- Save or submit using the page controls.
Contributions and profile badges
Open Researchers → Contributions to filter by period and lab and compare up to four people. Profile contributions start collapsed with a level, scores and a featured badge. Expand to see contribution types and next-level requirements. Platform administrators can view and compare profile and directory summaries and activity details regardless of sharing preferences. Contribution summaries are visible to signed-in members by default. To opt out, open Contributions → My sharing settings, uncheck sharing and save. Existing saved private choices are preserved. Summaries may include restricted project activity, while source access stays unchanged. Withdrawing sharing immediately removes public rankings. Scheduled aggregation includes published wiki work, durably stored shared uploads, accepted proposals, shared discussions and confirmed Issue creation. AI chats, likes and visits do not earn points. External PRs, reviews, task completion and support tickets are not yet scored. See the detail page for daily caps and pilot criteria. Report missing or incorrect evidence through Customer support. Platform administrators can exclude or restore readable evidence with an audited reason, applied at the next refresh. Participation levels do not grant permissions or measure overall research ability and are separate from magazine awards.
Contribution reminders and personal goals
Open Settings → Contribution notifications to receive milestones and weekly summaries, weekly summaries only, or no reminders.
In-app delivery is the default, limited to once a day and twice a week.
The introduction appears once; old badges are not replayed and inactive weeks have no summary.
Email requires both a separate opt-in and your existing email delivery preference.
Choose an optional badge goal or snooze for 30 days.
Expand your profile contribution section for this week across your labs, the change from last week, and remaining points, active days and contribution types for the next level.
No AI allowance is used.
